Why Don’t People Ask Us About Our Hope?

[borrowed from a friend’s FB note]

From John Piper’s ‘Don’t Waste Your Life’ pp. 108-109…

When was the last time someone asked you about “the reason for the hope that is in you”? That’s what Peter said we should always be ready to give an answer for: “Always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Pet. 3:15).

Why don’t people ask us about our hope? The answer is probably that we look as if we hope in the same things they do. Our lives don’t look like they are on the Calvary road, stripped down for sacrificial love, serving others with the sweet assurance that we don’t need to be rewarded in this life. Our reward is great in heaven (Matt. 5:12)!

So true, eh? Grab a pdf copy of the book here.

Also, watch Lecrae’s song, “Don’t waste you life”, here. He got the inspiration from John Piper’s book. The last 2 lines of the song go like this:

“If He’s truly raised to life / then this news should change your life / and by His grace you can put your faith in a place that rules your days and nights.”

Even though I don’t really like rap haha, I have to hand it to Lecrae. He’s summarized it SO well. And the music video is edited really well. It tells such a great story.

I think it’s awesome when people use their talents to glorify God. Lecrae’s done a brilliant job!
